The Institute of Trichologists was founded in 1902, by a group of Doctors and Scientists who realized the gap in care for those suffering with hair and scalp disorders.
We have been training Trichologists for over a century and we are acknowledged to be the authority and recognised training and awarding body for the profession.
Our training and examination process is rigorous. The highest standards are set and are expected of our students and Members.
Qualified and Registered Members of The Institute of Trichologists must adhere to a very strict Code of Professional Practice and Ethics and we hold, and are responsible for, the register of IOT qualified practitioners.
The IOT course is run by the IOT as a private awarding body. We are not supported by Government grants neither do we come under the umbrella of the NHS jurisdiction.
For clarity we are recognised and respected as a professional body and organisation by Trading standards, The Law Courts, NHS direct and other learned societies and professional bodies and The IOT is represented at meetings of The All Party Parliamentary Group on Skin in the House of Commons.
Our assistance is regularly sought by other educational awarding bodies ( NVQ for example ), vocational educationalists and allied health professionals.
The Institute has a Code of Ethics, which our members must adhere to. This Code is very strictly enforced. This gives security to patients visiting a Registered Member of our Institute.
